Kobbie Mainoo odds for England Euros squad slashed after Manchester United star's Belgium display

Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has seen his odds slashed for a place in the England squad for Euro 2024.

The 18-year-old midfielder has been on a remarkable rise since breaking into Erik ten Hag’s side a few months ago. His stellar performances for United saw him called up for England U21s this month before being promoted to the senior squad.

Mainoo made his Three Lions debut against Brazil last weekend and was subsequently handed his first England start by Gareth Southgate against Belgium. The teenager was impressive on Tuesday night, linking up with Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham, and Mainoo has been backed to have earned a spot in England’s squad for the summer tournament.

Bookmakers bet365 have dropped the odds of Mainoo being included in Southgate’s squad to 2/7 following his display against Belgium. He was previously 1/2 after making his England debut and was regarded as an outsider for the Euros squad as recently as January, previously being priced at 20/1.

That places Mainoo ahead of experienced Ajax midfielder Jordan Henderson (8/15) in the pecking order, according to bet365, with recent England regular Kalvin Phillips. The bookmaker expects Mainoo to be joined by at least two of his United teammates for the tournament in Germany.
