Folkestone Invicta manager Jay Saunders staying grounded after his in-form side go top of the Isthmian Premier

Jay Saunders isn’t getting carried away by Folkestone’s flying start to the season - and neither are his players.

Invicta went top of the Isthmian Premier for the first time this season after goals from Joe Pigott, Dean Rance and Ade Yusuff in a 3-0 victory at Potters Bar on Saturday.

They followed up with a ruthless 8-1 thrashing of Cray Wanderers on Tuesday night - Ben Mason and Jake Hutchinson both scoring hat-tricks with Pigott adding two more - and are a point clear of Brentwood with two games in hand.

“When we lost to Hashtag, it was a bit doom and gloom and it was our first defeat of the season.

“Was it a bit of a shock? I think for most people it was and if we played that game another 10 times, I genuinely believe we win it but on the night we weren’t good enough.

“But our response has been brilliant and I think that shows you a lot of what the squad’s about.

“We’re just trying to keep them grounded but we don’t really have to because the boys know what they’ve got to do.

“They’ve just got to keep doing
