Ashford United manager Lloyd Hume couldn’t turn down the chance to sign goalkeeper Roshan Greensall but also wants Harry Brooks to stay
Lloyd Hume believes Ashford have landed a gem in new goalkeeper Roshan Greensall.
The former Crawley youngster has joined the Nuts & Bolts from Isthmian South East high-fliers Faversham.
He made his debut in a 4-2 win at Hassocks on Saturday - Gary Lockyer (2), Mike West and Will Moses the scorers - and has everything boss Hume wants in a keeper.
“He’s a real athlete, he’s got real desire, he’s got a burning ambition to be better than where he is,” said Hume.
“I think his ability is better than where he is and I think he’s shown that this year.
“I looked at some comments from Faversham fans, and no one’s got a negative word to say about him, and the three times I’ve seen him play this year, he’s been outstanding.
“He wants to get better, he wants to develop as a goalkeeper and he just had all the qualities in an individual that I love.
“He’s got that crazy side to him as a goalkeeper, which I love, and he came in on Saturday and did a really good job.”
Greensall’s arrival means Harry Brooks has lost his place just a couple of weeks after signing from Sheppey as the replacement for the injured Sam Freeman.
Hume has a lot of time for Brooks and wants him to stay at Homelands in a player-coach role.
“When Harry came in, I said unless something drastic changes, it’s your shirt to lose,” said Hume.
“He’s been really unfortunate because he didn’t put a foot wrong in the two games he played but Roshan, we know, and we’ve liked him for a long period of time.
“We didn’t think he’d become available. He’s a 22-year-old goalkeeper that’s only going to get better and when the opportunity came up to sign him, we had to take it.
“We were very honest with Harry about that.
