Faversham Town manager Tommy Warrilow says performance in 5-1 win against Hastings is a yardstick for the rest of the season
Faversham Town set the standard for the rest of the season with a big win over Hastings United.
The Lilywhites came from a goal down to thump the U’s 5-1 at Salters Lane and move up to third in Isthmian South East.
It was precisely the performance manager Tommy Warrilow was looking for after his side lost 3-2 to Erith Town in their previous league game a fortnight ago.
Kieron Campbell levelled and there were two goals apiece for Harrison Pont and Tashi-Jay Kwayie, including a penalty.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better response to the last game because that wasn’t acceptable and the boys knew that,” said Warrilow.
“I’m not taking anything away from Erith but that’s what happens if you turn up with what I thought was the wrong approach to the game.
“But on Saturday, we’ve had four sessions to work on things, and the tempo, the work ethic, everything, I couldn’t have asked for anything better.
“I said to the boys afterwards, that’s the yardstick. We’ve just got to keep pushing on.
“We went one down, which can be a kick in the teeth, but we were really good.
“Everyone did the right thing, every sub that went on took nothing away from the momentum and it makes a massive difference.
“We’ve had to wait two weeks for that and we’ve got a busy February coming up with six games, so it’s important we keep it going.
“That’s the message, it’s not rocket science, you get out of life what you put in, and on Saturday the boys got their just rewards and they’ve earned that.”
While Kwayie has been banging in goals all season, Pont is more known for his defensive qualities.
Warrilow believes it’s the first time he’s ever scored twice in a match, while he was also pleased for Ethan Smith, who impressed on his return to the starting XI.
