Hythe Town manager Andy Drury working on further signings in bid to beat the drop

New manager Andy Drury is closing in on further additions to his Hythe Town squad.

The arrival of winger Gil Carvalho before last weekend’s 3-0 home defeat by Erith & Belvedere took the tally of signings under Drury to nine.

More new faces are on the way as the Cannons bid to pull off a great escape from relegation in the Southern Counties East Premier Division.

They remain bottom, nine points from safety, and host Corinthian at Reachfields this Saturday (3pm).

Drury said: “Hopefully we can bring a couple more in this week and make us stronger all over the park, so we haven’t got any weak links, and then I think we should be OK.

“We’re hoping to bring two, maybe three, in this week and we should be done then.

“We’ve got the quality in the building, I think it’s maybe just a confidence issue.

“Once we win a game, we’ll go on a run. It’s getting that monkey off our back and getting three points.

“Winning becomes a habit and losing becomes a habit.

“The club’s been losing for two years and it needs a bit of a shift.

“The big thing is to get a win and we’ll be like a new team.”

Drury has had to act fast since taking charge, with Hythe in a precarious position as they battle to avoid successive relegations.

It’s not the easiest time of year to make so many changes but the Cannons have had to roll the dice.

“You can’t do it all in the space of one or two weeks,” said Drury.

“Players become available at this time of year for reasons, where they might not have been playing or they’ve come back from injury.

“If they’re playing and are happy at a club, they’re not really going to change clubs.

“We’ve managed to get in some good players, they just need two or three games to get up to speed.
