Maidstone United manager George Elokobi says there’s no time to dwell on Chippenham defeat as they prepare for Monday night football at Chelmsford City

Maidstone United have an immediate chance to get over their weekend disappointment.

The Stones visit Chelmsford in a rearranged National League South match tonight (7.45pm).

It comes two days on from an injury-time 1-0 defeat at struggling Chippenham - a third successive loss for the Stones in their faltering promotion bid.

They start the night eight points outside the play-offs, in 13th place, a point behind Chelmsford.

Maidstone finished the Chippenham game with injury concerns over right-back David Sesay, who hobbled off, and Deon Moore, who was struggling with his back.

They will be assessed before manager George Elokobi names his side to take on the Clarets, whose star man is former Charlton Athletic striker Lyle Taylor.

“It’s a quick turnaround,” said Elokobi, speaking after the Chippenham game. “We’ve got to park this result. We can’t dwell on it because the games are coming thick and fast.

“We’ll look at the ones that have a bit of a niggle and see where they are.”

Maidstone topped the form table just last month and were outstanding in a 3-0 home win over Ebbsfleet.

They haven’t won since, taking just one point from four games, but haven’t become a bad side overnight.

“It’s important we keep going because only us in the changing room, the players, can change stuff on the pitch,” said Elokobi.

“We pick a team, we send them out to go and play and we have to make sure we keep encouraging them and supporting them, regardless of their mindset at this moment in time. Of course, nobody loves to lose.”

Maidstone and Chelmsford drew 0-0 at the Gallagher Stadium in the opening month of the season.

They were due to meet in the return at the start of January but the match was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
