Hythe Town manager Andy Drury says his new-look side would be a play-off team had they been together at the start of the season
Andy Drury believes he has the team to push on after leading Hythe to a first win in 17 league games at the weekend.
Drury, taking charge of just his third match, saw Town come from a goal down to beat Corinthian 3-1 at Reachfields.
Robbie Dolan, Uko Oji and Gil Carvalho were the second-half scorers as Drury’s men moved off the foot of the Southern Counties East Premier Division at the expense of Stansfeld, their hosts this Saturday (3pm).
It’s a bottom-two clash in name only, as far as Drury is concerned, having built a new side in rapid time since succeeding Darren Beale as manager.
The Cannons remain nine points from safety but have the quality to put a run together in the final 10 matches.
“If we were starting the season with this team, we wouldn’t be in the bottom two,” said Drury.
“That’s the kind of mentality I want the boys to have.
“They need to be thinking if we had this team at the start of the season, the minimum we’d be would be play-offs.
“As long as we do the basics right and we work hard, we can hopefully get three points against Stansfeld.”
Drury gave a debut to former Football League goalkeeper Dion-Curtis Henry against Corinthian.
The big stopper made his EFL debut for Peterborough and was also on the books at Crystal Palace.
He’s another important signing and Drury is working on one more addition before the Stansfeld trip.
“Dion came in and was very good,” said Drury.
“The boys I’ve brought in are good characters and they’re here to fight for the club and see if we can get ourselves out of the relegation zone.
“I don’t think they’re affected by the league position, it’s just one or two aren’t fully up to speed yet.
“They need a couple more games to be fully at it.
“It’s not easy to get people down to
