Mikel Arteta's rallying cry to Arsenal ahead of Man City Community Shield clash

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has insisted the time is now for his team to seek their revenge on Manchester City.

The Gunners led the way in the Premier League for several months last season but fell short to City in the title race after a disastrous April saw them drop points to West Ham, Liverpool and Southampton before being thrashed at the Etihad Stadium. City's incredible show of perseverance led to them not only clinching the title but also adding the Champions League and FA Cup to their trophy cabinet.

Meanwhile, Arteta had to remain content with a return to European football's elite and a runners-up medal. However, the former City assistant manager believes Sunday is a significant opportunity for Arsenal to begin to right the wrongs of last season, even if it is just the Community Shield.

Speaking about the traditional curtain raiser, the Spaniard said: "[We are] very excited to play a final and have the opportunity to win a trophy. We’re playing the opportunity that is the team to beat." When asked if beating City is extra motivation for his team this weekend, Arteta simply replied: "Yes. It’s time to do it."

As far as team news goes, Arteta can rely upon Bukayo Saka who was feeling 'much better' in training but former City man Gabriel Jesus will miss out due to a knee injury. On the Brazilian, the North London club's boss said: "He’s fine. He’s obviously disappointed because he was feeling good and then this issue came up."
