Manchester United could consider transfer U-turn to help Rasmus Hojlund shine

Manchester United could end up needing to complete an unexpected deal in the transfer market.

United have been clear in their approach to new signings this summer, with all three of Andre Onana, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund forming a key part of Erik ten Hag’s squad. The wait continues to see how Rasmus Hojlund will adapt to the pressures that come with being a £72m striker, but there is plenty of optimism surrounding the Denmark international.

In his absence, the United boss has relied upon Marcus Rashford to fill the void at centre forward. Asked about his team’s early struggles to score goals after the defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, Ten Hag said, "It's about belief and we believe these players because they did it last year as well. They can score goals but it's obvious why we signed a striker.

"If everything goes well, Martial is on the way back, Hojlund is also coming, so we have more players capable to score a goal. But the players we have now on the pitch can score goals."

While Hojlund works on getting back to full fitness, United’s toothlessness in front of goal has put added pressure on the 20-year-old to be a somewhat instant success. It is certainly a huge gamble to back Hojlund to be United’s main man, given he scored nine league goals for Atalanta last term.
