Erik ten Hag opens up on Manchester United interest in Dan Ashworth

Erik ten Hag has welcomed Manchester United's interest in appointing a new sporting director and said he would welcome help at Old Trafford.

INEOS are keen to appoint Newcastle's Dan Ashworth as sporting director as part of an overhaul of the football structure at the club, with new hires also likely within recruitment. Ten Hag has so far worked with football director John Murtough but the football department at the club is set to be beefed up as part of a Sir Dave Brailsford-led review after Ineos agreed to take a 25% stake in United, with Ashworth the top target for the sporting director role.

Ten Hag has welcomed the possibility of new staff joining the club and said the size of the club made it a necessity for the manager to have help within the first-team setup.

"It is one of the most important factors to develop a good team, that you have the right players but also the right characters.
