‘I'm confident’ - Erik ten Hag has told Ineos how many new signings he needs to revive Man United

Erik ten Hag says Sir Jim Ratcliffe can “accelerate” Manchester United’s revival by helping to enhance club culture, something which has “fallen” in recent years.

The Dutchman - who faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford - has outlined that he has already seen how INEOS has shifted the momentum of the club just two months after the Glazers green-lit its arrival.

Ratcliffe has already appointed Manchester City chief Omar Berrada as United’s new CEO and is due to hold talks with Newcastle lead Dan Ashworth - currently on gardening leave - regarding a sporting director role. INEOS is also looking to acquire Southampton technical director Jason Wilcox as they spy an elite reformation.

Players have often underlined how Ten Hag has helped to raise standard levels since his arrival, and the manager highlighted how this high benchmark has dropped in recent years. He believes Ratcliffe will help United morph back into a top force once again.

“I think especially on the performance side, they [INEOS] can help us a lot to build a culture and high standard,” Ten Hag told BBC Sport. “They can accelerate the process. I think this club has fallen in standards but now we are back and I have already seen some examples how they can really support us to set that right standard.”

The Manchester Evening News understands that Ratcliffe is not fully sold on Ten Hag as United’s long-term manager amid a drab season, despite securing the Carabao Cup and a top-four finish last year. Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi is on a shortlist of potential alternatives.
