EA Sports to reportedly introduce women’s football leagues to FIFA 23

Women’s football leagues will reportedly be introduced to FIFA 23, the next edition of EA Sports’s flagship title.

According to Tom Henderson from Xfire, FIFA 23 will include a number of women’s football leagues and the Women’s World Cup.

The Women’s Super League, NWSL, Frauen-Bundesliga and Division 1 Féminine are all set to be introduced to the game.

This will come as a result of EA expanding its licence partnership across all major leagues to “build a single FIFA experience that brings males and females together”.

Women’s teams have featured in EA’s popular franchise since FIFA 16, but only international sides up until this point.

Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, England, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Sweden, and the United States were the 12 teams initially included in the game.

FIFA has since expanded and added Belgium, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal and Scotland.

Gamers can currently play as women in FIFA 22’s Pro Clubs mode, and former Arsenal star Alex Scott became the first English-speaking female broadcaster on the game this year.

This did not appease fans for long, however, with those who follow women’s football regularly calling for increased female representation on FIFA.

The addition of women’s football leagues from around the world could see this finally come to fruition.

It had been uncertain whether the next edition of the popular game would even be associated with FIFA – EA announced in October that it was reviewing its licencing agreement with the governing body.
