David de Gea finally 'agrees transfer' after leaving Man Utd as 12-month exile to end

Former Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea is reportedly close to returning to football after over a year out with a move to Serie A side Fiorentina.

De Gea left United at the expiry of his contract in 2023 and spent the entire of the 2023/24 campaign without a club. He posted various training videos throughout his time away before confirming he was 'ready to rock' in a recent post in June.

Despite reports of a potential move to Major League Soccer and the Saudi Pro League, De Gea is now close to joining Fiorentina. According to various reports, the former United number one will sign a one-year deal in Italy with an option for a one-year extension.

It is also being reported that the Spaniard will take a significant pay cut to return to first-team football in comparison to what he was on at United. The exact figure is not public, but the 33-year-old was reportedly on £375,000-per-week at Old Trafford.

Pietro Terracciano was Fiorentina's No.1 last season, but it's expected that De Gea will now become Raffaele Palladino's first-choice. Their Serie A campaign kicks-off next Saturday against Parma before they begin their European endeavours in the Europa Conference League.

De Gea was released from United after talks over a new deal fell through, bringing an end to his 12 years at the club. He made over 540 appearances in Manchester before being replaced by Andre Onana.
