Christian Eriksen praises Manchester United teammate as Luke Shaw absence explained

Here are your Manchester United evening headlines for Sunday, September 11.

Christian Eriksen believes fellow midfielder Scott McTominay deserves huge credit for his role in Manchester United's resurgent run of form in the Premier League.

United lost their first two matches of the campaign in humiliating fashion but bounced back with a string of four successive wins in the league, including home victories over Liverpool and Arsenal.

Eriksen and McTominay started in midfield for each of those four wins, and it was telling that their overall performance dropped when the partnership was broken up against Real Sociedad on Thursday night.

Ten Hag will be hoping the duo can inspire United to another win the next time they start a match together — their clash with Crystal Palace this weekend was postponed after the Queen's death — and Eriksen believes McTominay deserves much of the praise for his work in midfield.

Luke Shaw is struggling with a foot injury that has sidelined him for two of Man United's last three games.

Shaw has not played since he was substituted at half-time in the 4-0 thrashing by Brentford on August 13 and he was absent from the matchday squads against Leicester and Real Sociedad.

The 27-year-old was in line to start against Sociedad but did not participate in United's open training session the day before the Europa League defeat.

It is understood Shaw's injury is believed to be minor and United manager Erik ten Hag said the left-back had a "small complaint".
