Why Roy Keane shoved Manchester United teammate in Legends match vs Liverpool FC

Roy Keane was a surprise inclusion in the Manchester United Legends squad for their match with Liverpool at the weekend.

Unsurprisingly, the former United skipper was the pantomime villain at Anfield with his every touch of the ball booed during a 15-minute cameo in the charity clash.

But there was one flashpoint which showed his competitive nature has not gone away despite his presence these days as a prominent pundit on Sky Sports rather than a midfield enforcer.

Teammate Ronny Johnsen approached Keane following his arrival as a late substitute and offered to give him the captain’s armband. But the Irishman clearly had no time for such a gesture and pushed the centre-back away, refusing to take up the offer.

United had taken a first-half lead through former striker Dimitar Berbatov but saw the game turned on its head after the break, courtesy of goals from Mark Gonzalez and Florent Sinama-Pongolle.

It means that United have lost both Legends of the North fixtures that have taken place this year, losing 3-1 to Liverpool at Old Trafford back in May.
