Former Chelsea youngster could suit Man City as Brighton target manager loved by Pep Guardiola

Manchester City might not have played this weekend, but when it comes to Pep Guardiola's side there is always plenty to talk about where transfer gossip is concerned.

Young Scottish midfielder Billy Gilmour left Chelsea for Brighton this summer in a deal worth around £9m, but doubts have already been cast over his future following the move of manager Graham Potter in the other direction.

The 21-year-old is considered an exciting future prospect by both clubs, and Pat Nevin, former Chelsea and Scotland attacker Pat Nevin does not see Brighton as his final destination. In fact, he sees Gilmour one day going to City, provided he continues to develop on the south coast.

"Four or five years down the line, I won't be surprised if he's playing in the Manchester City, Liverpool or Chelsea midfield - he's that technically good," Nevin told The Herald.

Sticking with the Brighton theme, the Seagulls are looking for a new manager to replace Potter and are believed to be targeting two coaches highly rated by Pep Guardiola.

According to reports in South America Brighton are looking at River Plate boss Marcelo Gallardo. The Argentine has impressed since taking charge at one of the biggest clubs in the world back in 2014, and in recent years has earned plenty of praise from Guardiola, in particular for the way he nurtured the talent of Julian Alvarez.
