Didier Deschamps explains why he is 'surprised' by Christian Eriksen at Manchester United

Didier Deschamps heaped praise on Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen before the Dane was voted Man of the Match in his side's 2-0 win over France on Sunday evening.

Eriksen has been superb for United since his arrival this summer. Erik ten Hag added the 30-year-old to his United midfield and has turned to the former Brentford man in every single game so far this season.

Eriksen has started in all six Premier League games under Ten Hag, as he continues to impress the Dutchman with both his close control and stunning range of passing. Although he has only picked up two assists so far this campaign, the numbers do not come close to highlighting how vital Eriksen has been for United in his short time at the club.

As ever, the international break had United fans worrying about the prospect of injuries, while the break from club football came at a terrible time given the momentum Ten Hag had built. However, United's squad have so far shone during the international break, as Eriksen became the latest Red to make the headlines after his commanding performance on Sunday night against World Cup winners France.

Deschamps was all too aware of the threat that the United midfielder posed to his side, as he waxed lyrical about Eriksen ahead of kick-off.
