Chris Sutton pressed for Rangers manager first choice as he tells Robbie Savage why one standout WON'T get job

Chris Sutton has been pressed for his Rangers manager first choice but revealed why Derek McInnes WON'T be the man to replace Michael Beale.

The Kilmarnock and former Aberdeen boss has been heavily linked with the vacant Ibrox hot-seat after Beale was given his marching orders last weekend. It leaves Rangers supremos John Bennett and James Bisgrove working overtime during the international break to get the new man in after damaging defeats to Aberdeen and Aris were followed up by salvation at St Mirren. And while Chelsea legend Frank Lampard and high-flying AZ Alkmaar boss Pascal Jansen are non-starters, a calling from the Far East could be the answer.

The Celtic hero and Record Sport columnist insists Yokohama Marinos boss Kevin Muscat fits the profile of what Rangers need, and with his years of tutelage under Ange Postecoglou, he could be the man to redeem them. Sutton reckons McInnes jumping ship from Ayrshire to Auchenhowie, however, will not happen when pressed for his choice by co-host Robbie Savage.

Savage asked on 5Live: "On a serious note Chris, I know you're a huge advocate and champion for Scottish football. Rangers - who would you go for? Who would you put in place? You are a huge Scottish football fan Chris, and I know we have a little bit of fun about it. Who do you think Rangers could get like Celtic got big Ange?"

Sutton responded: "Kevin Muscat. I think in a similar route to Ange Postecoglou, he's been a manager for ten years, he's got enough experience and has been pretty successful in the J-League. Talk of Derek McInnes but he turned them down before, so I don't think they will go back there."
