Robbie Savage tells Rangers the title race is OVER but Chris Sutton plays spoiler over 'ridiculous' Celtic boast

Smirking Robbie Savage has declared that the Scottish Premiership title race is already over after Celtic saw off Hearts.

Brendan Rodgers led his side to a comfortable win over the Jambos at Tynecastle as the Hoops strolled to a 4-1 victory over Steven Naismith's men - restoring Celtic's seven-point advantage over Rangers at the top of the table. New Ibrox boss Philippe Clement got off to an impressive start in his first game in charge as he saw his side dominate Hibs in a 4-0 victory on home turf.

However, former Birmingham City and Derby County midfielder Savage was quick to dismiss the impact the Belgian could have on bringing the title back from Glasgow's east end - and he crowned Rodgers' side champions after just nine games. Speaking to Chris Sutton on BBC 606 the Welshman gave a bullish prediction on the race for top spot despite being fewer than 10 games in.

He said: "Your lot moved seven points clear in Scotland. It's all over in Scotland. Christopher, can Celtic now focus on the Champions League?"

Sutton put the champagne on ice as he responded: "That is ridiculous. Rangers have a new manager. We want to hear from Rangers fans; Philippe Clement has come in as manager at Ibrox. 29 games to go in the season, do Rangers fans believe they can win the title? But Celtic were brilliant today.

"Did you see Matt O'Riley's goal? Wonderful. He will be the next one off the Celtic conveyor belt to move for big money eventually."

Savage rounded off with a shot at Sutton - who had been on commentary duties for Sky Sports. He said: "I loved the neutral commentary."
