Chris Sutton drops Rangers reminder to boo boys as bristling Kris Boyd bites on Celtic icon's bait

Smirking Chris Sutton goaded Kris Boyd and doubting Rangers fans as he questioned if they were too quick to judge Cyriel Dessers.

The Nigeria international got off to a stuttering start to life in the Scottish Premiership following his big money summer arrival - having been booed by the Rangers support for his lacklustre displays during the final days of the Michael Beale era. But since then Philippe Clement has managed to bring the best out of the frontman - who has now netted six goals in his last 10 appearances for the club.

The 29-year-old was the different against St Mirren as the Light Blues were made to battle for a crucial three points in the title fight with Celtic - with the gap being cut to two points before kick-off in the east end of Glasgow where Brendan Rodgers side faced off against Ross County. Speaking to Sky Sports, the former Rangers striker was asked if he had been impressed with the turnaround in Dessers' Ibrox fortunes.

He said:: "I think when you are getting chances with the Old Firm the numbers do need to be high. There is no getting away from it.

"You look at Rangers over the years and the top goalscorer has come from that right-back position - which would be a worry. You are looking at midfielders and wide players - could they be scoring more, but they have been playing as individuals.

"But Philippe Clement has come in and galvanised that squad. And if you are at the top of that, and you are the number nine, you are going to get chances. Cyriel Dessers scoring in the week and taking his chance, I don't want to be ultra-critical when he is scoring goals."
