Neil McCann sees something Rangers have that he doesn't recognise at Celtic

Neil McCann reckons the patience of the Rangers fans is proving crucial in their Scottish Premiership title battle - as the ex Ibrox winger insisted it was clear they are crying out for a proper No. 9 following the win over Ross County.

The Light Blues missed the chance to occupy outright top spot in the table by a single goal after a 3-1 victory over the Staggies at Ibrox. Cyriel Dessers bagged a double and John Souttar headed home late on, with Simon Murray capitalising on poor defensive play to net for the Highlanders.

McCann, though, pointed out the reaction of the supporters was key as the Gers faithful refused to get too disgruntled despite not hitting the summit - the second time they’d had the opportunity in the space of eight days. He compared that to rivals Celtic where there have been groans despite winning eight of their last nine fixtures. Brendan Rodgers pointed to the negative “narrative” around Celtic with Rangers now level on points with the champions having been seven points behind before Philippe Clement’s arrival.

McCann said on BBC Sportscene: “The one thing I would like to point out is that a fanbase can be a real powerhouse but they can also be a real weakness and I think the fans are showing a real true form of support because so often - even when I was playing - they get on edge. They know they need goals. They want to go top of the league so badly after being so far behind but there’s an enormous amount of patience being shown by that support right now and that is helping the team stay relaxed, cool and calm - maybe not the same across the city."

Ross County’s on-loan Fulham keeper George Wickens was inspired between the sticks for the visitors. Rangers had 43 shots with 23 of those on target
