Chelsea now 'considering' move for 'outstanding' £40m star at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea are considering a move for Southampton‘s Kyle Walker-Peters, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
Thomas Tuchel recently bolstered his left-sided options with the addition of Brighton’s Marc Cucurella and Romano reckons they could repeat the feat on the right by signing the ex-Tottenham man.
Despite having more pressing areas on the pitch to improve, Tuchel is clearly making the wing-back department a priority.
In truth, the Blues are one player short at right wing-back with Reece James the club’s only option, although the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who started there against Spurs on Sunday, are both capable.
Regardless, Chelsea are still targeting another right wing-back and are interested in Walker-Peters, who would cost the Londoners around £40m.
Walker-Peters, who scored against Leeds to rescue Southampton a draw on Saturday, has impressed since leaving Tottenham a couple of years ago, with his form attracting the attention of Manchester United, Arsenal and Everton.
But while Romano confirmed that Chelsea are monitoring the England international’s progress, he admitted that the Blues have other concerns in key areas.
He told GIVEMESPORT: “Kyle Walker-Peters is one of the names they’re considering at Chelsea, although I think the priorities for Todd Boehly and Thomas Tuchel are a centre back and a central striker.”
Having proven himself as a reliable defender and someone who can contribute going forward, it’s no surprise that Walker-Peters is a man in demand.
His performances have already convinced Gareth Southgate to call him up to the England squad and hand him his first cap and he’s impressed some of the Premier League’s top managers, too.
Last season, he averaged 1.8 tackles
