Chelsea have 'discussed' £50m Premier League striker at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea have discussed Brentford’s Ivan Toney as a striker option, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

While the 26-year-old is not thought to be a priority for the west London club, Jones has suggested that they could make a move for him if they fail to land other targets.

Earlier this month, the Daily Mirror reported that Chelsea, Everton and Manchester United were all eyeing Toney.

The Englishman was also thought to have been a target for Newcastle United, but they have since gone on to sign Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad.

Regarding how much he could cost, CBS reporter Ben Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT in July that the Magpies were quoted a £50m fee when they made an enquiry about purchasing him from Brentford.

Toney has made a fine start to the season, particularly impressing in his side’s incredible 4-0 win against Manchester United. That day, he was able to come up with two assists as he led the line excellently for the Bees.

Jones says Toney’s name has been discussed at Stamford Bridge but only loosely at this stage.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “I’d say if there was a left-field target that Chelsea go to, maybe look out for Ivan Toney. If nothing else goes Chelsea’s way, then I know for a fact that they’ve got scouting reports on Toney.

“He’s been discussed, I’d say loosely, as an option that could come in, particularly at a late stage of the window. Now look, he wouldn’t be cheap at all, but he does have a decent goal record at a team that is new to the Premier League, and one of the things that Chelsea have been weighing up is what his output might be in a team of their standing.”

It seems unlikely. Reports suggest that Barcelona’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is Thomas Tuchel’s No.1 striker
