Chef immediately arrested after landing at Manchester Airport

A chef sobbed and prayed in the dock after demanding £2,000 from a woman while threatening to upload sexual videos of her to a pornographic website. Rubel Ahmed was arrested at Manchester Airport upon his arrival back in the UK, having sent the clips to her boyfriend's relatives, a court heard.

A judge was told that the 38-year-old bombarded his victim, from St Helens, with a series of voice notes and messages threatening to "release private sexual material" of her by sending the images to her family members and partners "unless she paid him £2,000". He thereafter sent her calls and messages "containing similar threats" from a withheld number and, in one recording, said he would "ruin her life".

Philip Astbury, prosecuting at Liverpool Crown Court, described how Ahmed, of Alkamenous in Athens, threatened to "upload the sexual material to a pornographic website", then sent such files to her boyfriend's family. He however did so while in Greece, and was therefore not charged in relation to this due to the offence having been committed outside of the jurisdiction.

But the Bangladeshi national went on to set up a fake Instagram account in her name and using her pictures. Ahmed sent her a follow request "to bring the account to her attention" and threatened to create further similar pages unless she paid him money, reports The Echo.

The complainant contacted the police at this stage, and the defendant was arrested at Manchester Airport on April 3 while flying back into the country. He "has no convictions or cautions recorded against him in this jurisdiction".
