Polish pundit lashes out at 'disgusting' Scotland clash as Steve Clarke told he's NO CHANCE of going to World Cup

Polish TV pundit Wojciech Kowalczyk reckons the football on show at Hampden on Thursday was 'disgusting' - and neither Scotland or his home nation will be going to the World Cup on that evidence.

Steve Clarke's team fell to a late Nations League defeat after battling back from 2-0 down to level through Billy Gilmour and Scott McTominay. Scotland dominated virtually all of the second half and were chasing a stoppage time winner, when Poland broke and a bewildering Grant Hanley challenge granted the visitors the chance to win it.

Roma wide man Nicola Zalewski stepped up to convert with Robert Lewandowski, who scored the earlier spot-kick to make it 2-0, subbed off. And that sparked wild scenes in the away dugout with a feeling they had got out of jail after a concerning performance. It's now one win in 13 games for Scotland while it was Poland's first competitive victory since June 2023. And despite the five-goal thriller, former Polish international striker Kowalczyk was appalled at the general standard of both teams

He said: "It was disgusting to watch football like that. Of course the World Cup is the most important thing, but on that evidence, neither of the teams will be at the finals.

"I know people will say it's the result that counts and it was a much-needed victory, but for Poland, only one single player got pass marks - Nicola Zalewski, who was clearly the classiest player on the pitch. But for both teams, there was no style. In fact, it had very little to do with football the way they played. The systems were wrong and too many players weren't good enough. "
