Kate Garraway reveals heartbreaking reason she hasn't spoke about Derek Draper recently after tragic death

Kate Garraway has heartbreakingly explained her silence on social media about Derek Draper following his death.

Kate has been nominated for her recent documentary, 'Kate Garraway: Derek's Story', which follows the health struggles of her late husband Derek Draper over the last four years and his subsequent passing from complications related to coronavirus.

The Good Morning Britain presenter spoke out about the criticism she received. Speaking on Good Morning Britain, she explained: "I haven't posted about being nominated yet because I got so much backlash from doing it, for people saying 'stop going on about it'. But actually, I realise I'm letting people down," as she vowed to post about it.

Derek Draper died in January 2024, nearly four years after falling ill. In the wake of his death, Kate took some time away from the spotlight to be with her family before returning to her duties at Good Morning Britain, reports the Mirror.

On the show, she expressed how hard it was to produce the documentary, but felt an obligation to help others receive better support. She said: "One of the biggest frustrations was that he felt like a total failure, he felt like an incredible burden on the carers, on the system, on us and it didn't matter what we said, he felt that burden, and he wanted to be a contributor.

"It's wonderful to have the chance to honour him and also honour the millions. I'm sad because I don't have the chance to care anymore but I felt it would be wrong for me to sort of walk away from the caring campaign that I feel I have a responsibility for."

Kate admitted it was tough trying to separate her own personal experience from campaigning for change, but she was determined to make things better for carers across the UK.
