Chatham Town 1 Carlisle United 0: FA Trophy round four match report from the Bauvill Stadium

Chatham Town created another bit of club history with a shock win over Carlisle United.

Matty Macarthur’s superbly hit free-kick separated the sides at the break and despite Carlisle improving after the break they found no way past the stubborn home defence.

Chatham were playing in the fourth round of the competition for the first time in their history - but the journey goes on after Saturday’s 1-0 win.

Victory sends Chatham into the last 16 of the FA Trophy with the draw for round five on Monday.

It was a packed Bauvill Stadium for the match as Kevin Hake’s Isthmian Premier Division high-flyers tackled the top-ranked side in the competition.

Carlisle United went into the weekend sitting top of the National League as they looked for an immediate return to the EFL after last season’s relegation.

Chats captain Reece Butler picked up an early injury that required a stoppage for several minutes and a bandaged up head.

Chatham threatened around the Carlisle box on several occasions and reached the break well worthy of their 1-0 lead.
