Southend United manager Kevin Maher looks ahead to their FA Trophy fifth-round match at Chatham Town’s Bauvill Stadium

Chatham Town’s FA Trophy visitors will be desperate to avoid another Kent humiliation tomorrow.

Southend were knocked out by Sittingbourne at the same stage last season, the Brickies claiming a shock 1-0 win at Roots Hall a year ago.

A quarter-final place in this season’s competition is up for grabs at the Bauvill Stadium this Saturday, with National League Southend taking on a Chatham side chasing promotion from the Isthmian Premier Division.

The Shrimpers arrive after a midweek setback, losing 2-1 at Rochdale, with a 90th-minute goal on Tuesday night. Chatham, meanwhile, have enjoyed a full week to prepare for the biggest games in their history.

Southend sit eighth in the National League table and will be favourites on paper, but Maher insists his side will not take anything for granted.

Maher said: “It’s a tough challenge. They beat Carlisle [in the last round], it’s a good set-up there. We’ve had them watched and know the threats that they might pose but we’ll be ready.

“I always give everyone the utmost respect, whatever the level, that will never change. We will match prep and analyse as we do for every game.

“It’s a one-off [cup game] and we know how up for it they will be. We know what to expect. We have had it previously, we know what it is like, but we have to perform.

“We know what will come, we’re prepared for what they will be like, there will be no excuses.”

'Another huge moment for the club...' @ChathamTownFC will attempt to write another historic chapter in their remarkable season this Saturday...
