Sheppey United midfielder Ben Clark has a trial at a Football League side weeks after being released by Gillingham
Sheppey United could lose midfielder Ben Clark to a Football League side.
Clark started the season on loan with the Ites from Gillingham, and when his six-month pro contract with the League 2 club expired at the end of the year, he agreed a permanent move to Sheppey.
The Ites won’t want to stand in his way if there’s a chance to play for a team in the EFL again and he’s been on trial for the last few weeks, hoping to earn himself a deal.
First-team general manager Lee Allen said: “We had an agreement with Ben when he left Gills and signed for us that if a big opportunity came to him, we wouldn’t stand in his way.
“He’s been on trial for the last couple of weeks and he hopes to hear during the course of this week what’s what with that.”
The Ites have also been in contact with Dover Athletic over extending the loan deal of their forward Kieron Agbebi who has settled well at the Isthmian South East side.
With striker Dan Bradshaw’s knee injury continuing to keep the experienced man out of the side, Agbebi’s arrival has helped bolster the numbers in attack.
“He’s settled in really well and he’s someone that manager Kevin Watson wants to work with for a bit longer,” Allen said.
Agbebi has been quick to forge a good understanding with another loan recruit, Stanley Oldfield, who recently joined on a month’s loan from Chatham Town.
Oldfield scored on Saturday in the 2-1 defeat against Jersey Bulls, his first for the club.
The striker was in great scoring form early on in the season for Chatham before suffering an injury setback and Allen accepts that his stay at Holm Park might be short-lived.
