Chatham Town Women play a rearranged game against Cambridge United this Sunday after celebrating a 6-1 win over London Bees last weekend

Chatham Town Women fired six goals past London Bees last weekend to give their promotion hopes a shot in the arm.

Their 6-1 home win over the Bees leaves Keith Boanas’ side still with plenty to do as they look to chase down the top two in National League Division 1 South East and another big test awaits them this Sunday.

Chats head back to Cambridge United to replay the league game which was abandoned after an injury to a home player in early November. They were 2-0 behind when the match was called off.

With big wins in the league and cups in recent fixtures, Chatham won’t be short of confidence.

Coach Jeff Allen, speaking to the club media, said: “We are all on cloud nine, we’re buzzing, but it is so important we stay grounded, one game at a time.

“We know what happened last time at Cambridge, but we need to focus and make sure it doesn’t happen again.

“We set the standards [last weekend] and it’s important we carry that on, this weekend and beyond.”

Chatham, in fourth, can close the gap on those above them with their game in hand this week as others sit it out. Norwich host Fulham next Sunday in a top-two clash.

With a 3-0 FA Cup win against York and a 4-1 Kent Cup victory over Aylesford showing the depth of quality in the Chats squad, they returned to league action last Sunday.

With manager Boanas absent from the touchline, Allen said: “It was phenomenal, absolutely fantastic for everyone.

“When we went into the dressing room [before the game] we said, ‘Today’s the start of putting our season back where it needs to be’ and after speaking to a couple of players in the week, they still believe that we can go on and achieve what we want to achieve by the end of the season.
