Chris Sutton takes Todd Cantwell parting shot as Celtic hero has final word in Rangers transfer rebel feud

Chris Sutton has fired a final parting shot at Todd Cantwell as he gets ready to exit Rangers.

The former Norwich City midfielder - brought to Ibrox by Michael Beale - will depart Philippe Clement's squad imminently for a new chapter in the English Championship at Blackburn Rovers. The two clubs have struck an agreement to take Cantwell back south of the border after an eventful spell in Scotland both on and off the pitch.

Cantwell famously said he had a bigger will to win than the Celtic captain, which led to ridicule for the Ibrox midfielder given his solitary trophy since moving to Govan compared to McGregor's 20 trophy haul with the Hoops at the time - now 22. Now Celtic hero and Record Sport columnist Sutton has turned that claim back on cantwell as he prepares to exit stage left. He posted on X: "I bet Callum McGregor is breathing a big sigh of relief this evening… good luck to Todd he needs to start doing his talking on the pitch. He’s gone to a great club."

Clement has been busy moving out bodies as he bids to add to his ranks before the deadline tonight. Scott Wright left for Birmingham City earlier today to join Ben Davies at the English League One outfit. Cantwell's exit will free up further funds as the Belgian boss looks to get his incomings over the line to boost fan morale ahead of the first derby of the season against Celtic on Sunday.

Rangers travel across Glasgow to face Brendan Rodgers' champions with the Hoops boasting three wins from three in the league so far. The visitors have two wins and one draw going into matchday four after an opening weekend draw with Hearts at Tynecastle.
