Celtic to launch new huge Arne Engels transfer bid as Jota dream back 'on' and Gustav Isaksen makes Lazio 'decision'

Celtic are preparing to launch a second bid for Arne Engels as they come up with a big number in a bid to test Augsburg's resolve.

The Belgian wants to join Brendan Rodgers' side before the window closes. But the Bundesliga side are sticking to their asking price after an opening offer of £6.5million was turfed out while the Hoops search for a successor to Matt O'Riley following his record-breaking move to Brighton. The Bavarian side are said to be keen to keep the 20-year-old but he could be sold for an offer in the region of £10m-12m.

Sky now claim the Hoops will make a second bid in the region of £9million to try to land the midfielder. But with Celtic ramping up their pursuit of players before the transfer deadline, a move for Gustav Isaksen looks to be off the table.

The winger has reportedly told Lazio he wants to remain at the club – despite the Italians being open to a deal the Hoops. Rodgers' side have shown an interest in a loan deal with an obligation to buy for the Danish international as the Scottish Premiership champions gear up their business in the final days of the window.

The wide man has struggled to impress in Serie A since signing from Midtjylland in a £10m-plus add ons deal last summer - but has been given a second chance by new boss Marco Baroni with the 23-year-old coming off the bench to net in the first league game of the season against Udinese. Despite this, Il Messaggero report that all the noises coming out of the Eternal City suggest the club were open to a sale. It is claimed Celtic wanted an initial loan deal worth £1.6m.
