Businessman moves to revive football in Ondo Schools

To revive school sports and further football development, an Ondo prince and businessman, Favour Adesida, has initiated a process that would culminate into a soccer competition among secondary schools in Akure metropolis.

The project, he said, is part of his agenda for grassroots football development, which he is doing in conjunction with Akure South Football Council.

The competition tagged “Favour Secondary School Football League,” will kick off on October 4. Speaking during the competition’s draws in Akure, yesterday, Adesida said that the competition is his contribution to the development of grassroots football in the state.

He explained that school sports is the best way to catch raw talents, adding that most of the best legs in the country were all discovered through school sports.

“We have a lot in stock for the participating teams, and to support the good work that the Ondo State FA is doing in the discovery of talents from the grassroots through various competitions,” he said.

From the draw, Igoba Secondary School, Akure will tackle St. Dominic’s in the opening match, while Omooluorogbo Grammar School will face Commercial Secondary School in the second match of the league.

Alakure Grammar School will lock horns with Army Comprehensive Secondary School, as Aquinas College will square up against Alagbaka Comprehensive among others.

Speaking on the competition, the Chairman of Akure Football Council, Mr. Abayomi Ogunlade, commended Adesida for his vision to revive secondary school sports in the state, adding that if the state had many people sponsoring competitions, enough players would be unearthed.
