Brendan Rodgers drops Celtic one liner after hardline Alexandro Bernabei stance as defender has 'alarm set now'

Delighted Brendan Rodgers praised his Celtic side for maintaining their 100 per cent start at Aberdeen - but the injury issues appear to be mounting after knocks to Cameron Carter-Vickers and Reo Hatate.

However the boss has welcomed Alexandro Bernabei back into the squad with a cheeky dig after the defender was dropped on the opening day of the season for sleeping in for a pre-match meeting. US international Carter-Vickers went off at half-time with a hamstring issue, while sub Hatate came on and had to go back off with a calf problem during the 3-1 win at Pittodrie. The pair will be assessed by the Celtic medical team over the next 48 but they will fall into the extremely doubtful category for the weekend Viaplay Cup clash at Kilmarnock.

Rodgers confirmed: “They look like fresh injuries, they never had those problems before. Cam just felt his hamstring towards the end of the half. We will assess that and hopefully it will not be too bad. "Reo came into the game just felt something in his calf. It is better for pre-caution’s sake to get them off and we will assess it from there. We will see in the next couple of days how they are.

"I think whatever team I play (at Kilmarnock) it's to win for Celtic. We'll see how they are and put out the best team to win. We're fighting on all fronts so I want to make sure we have the strongest team. We'll assess where they are at and see how they are in the next couple of days.”

The Celtic boss also confirmed Record Sport ’s story that Bernabei had been dropped for the opening day win over Ross County, after he slept in for the pre-match. Rodgers admitted it is all about setting standards and the Argentine has learned his lesson and was back on the bench at Aberdeen.

He joked:
