Ryan Bertrand offered to Celtic as transfer option emerges for Brendan Rodgers with free agent reunion

Free agent Ryan Bertrand has been offered to Celtic as a solution to the Scottish champions' search for left-back reinforcements.

The England cap has been without a club since leaving Leicester City at the end of last season following a two-year spell working under Brendan Rodgers at the Foxes. The Irishman is on the look-out for another option on the left side of his defence with Alexandro Bernabei struggling to make an impression on the pitch at Celtic.

Rodgers has also left Bernabei out of a matchday squad for the opening day clash with Ross County after turning up late to the pre-match squad meeting. Greg Taylor has emerged as the undisputed first-choice at left-back for the Hoops but has struggled to adapt to the new system implemented by Rodgers since Ange Postecoglou's exit. Record Sport understands that Bertrand is being considered as an option to add depth, with left-back identified as a key area that Rodgers would like to strengthen.

The 34-year-old impressed during his stint at Southampton before making the move to Leicester. However, his two-year spell was hampered by injury and a move to the Premiership would offer him a chance to kickstart his career.

Elsewhere, it has been claimed that Celtic have rejected a £10m bid from Leeds United for Matt O'Riley as the Hoops slap a not for sale sign on the midfielder. The Elland Road side are believed to be making inroads to sign Glen Kamara from Rangers but reports south of the border suggest they are looking at the Danish youth international who has shone in green and white since his 2022 move from MK Dons.
