Ashford United manager Lloyd Hume says it would be cowardly to walk away while the team are struggling and vows to get things right

Lloyd Hume says it would be cowardly to step down as Ashford United manager while the team are struggling.

Hume, who also co-owns the club, has come under fire from the terraces over the Nuts & Bolts’ Isthmian South East form.

He understands the criticism but remains committed to getting things right on the pitch and leading Ashford away from the bottom four.

They’re a point from safety, with games in hand, after two-goal Louis Collins scored an injury-time in a 2-1 comeback victory at Sevenoaks last night.

Hume’s ownership of Ashford, alongside business partner Dave Warr, has been universally praised, but fans have made their feelings known about results.

“The criticism doesn’t affect me but I hear them, I accept it, they’re right to make those comments, but I’ve got belief in my own ability to get this right,” said Hume, whose side host high-flying AFC Whyteleafe this Saturday (3pm).

“I haven’t got it right at the moment, I understand that, but I will get it right, it’s that straightforward.

“When I do that, which I will, then I’ll make decisions about who’s going to run the team.

“The easy and cowardly thing is to walk away now and pass someone else this hot potato.

“I’ve created it, I’ll get us out of it, and I will, and that’s exactly how I see it.

“I was always going to do this season as manager and that’s still my intention.

“But the intention was to leave the management in a stronger position than we took it over in and, right now, would I say it is? The answer is no.

“That’s on me, Stoney
