Alvaro Fernandez reveals Manchester United plan for next season amid transfer interest

Manchester United youngster Alvaro Fernandez has admitted he hopes to stay at Old Trafford next season despite having already been contacted by a number of Championship clubs.

Fernandez spent last season on loan at second-tier side Preston. The 20-year-old excelled in his time at Deepdale and was named the club's Young Player of the Year.

Preston had hoped they could lure him back to the Championship, but Fernandez has already ruled out a return. He's hoping to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his place in the first team, but he'll be aiming to join a team in a "top league" if he is to secure another temporary move away.

"Hopefully I can stay in the United first team," he told AS. "If it doesn’t happen and I have to go out on loan, then keep working hard and keep growing. I am 20 years old and what I want is to play. But if it can be at United, much better.

"I have been called [by] great Championship teams. And Preston wanted to continue counting on me. But in case of going out on loan, I would say that the time has come to go to a top league. Not to say directly the Premier League or La Liga."

Fernandez was one of three youngsters brought to United from Spain in the 2020 summer transfer window, with Alejandro Garnacho and Marc Jurado joining him at Old Trafford. Fernandez spent three years at Real Madrid prior to his United switch, and he admits he could one day return to Spain.
