Alison Hammond shares emotional concern for niece during NHS strike chat on This Morning

Alison Hammond appeared emotional on This Morning as she spoke about her concert for her niece ahead of the upcoming NHS strikes. Back in March, the presenter briefly paused the ITV daytime show as she gave a shout-out to her young family member who was in hospital at the time.

"I have to say, I have to caveat this, my little niece is in hospital at the moment," 48-year-old Alison said as they discussed a report which suggested lack of trust in the NHS was being reported by one in three members of staff.

She is doing really well, by the way. I have been going back and forward. I definitely need to say that the NHS staff.... they have been absolutely amazing," Alison added to which Dermot replied: "Extraordinary aren't they?" before Alison continued: "She has been treated absolutely amazingly."

And during Thursday's edition of This Morning (July 13), Alison and Dermot asked guests Nick Ferrari and Isla Traquair if the upcoming latest round of NHS strikes would cause treatment for those with cancer to be disrupted.

Alison, who has previously revealed her niece has cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy, said: "Obviously my niece is going through cancer at the moment and she's going through some really aggressive chemotherapy. As [an] Auntie, I just want to know, do you think she is going to be affected by this in any way?"

"I know they still have doctors on. I just want to know if she's going to be alright?" she added to which Isla replied: "Well, I believe they have to have the proper cover for life-threatening situations and I'd imagine cancer care would be one of those.
