Greater Manchester is set for a gloomy day as the threat of thunderstorms looms across the region. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms today (September 2).

The warning, which is already in force and runs until 11.59pm, covers all of Northern England, the Midlands and Wales, plus much of Scotland.

In these areas, the Met Office says thunderstorms could cause flooding and disruption. However, many places which are covered by the warning are expected to miss the storms.

According to the latest Met Office forecast, Greater Manchester could be one of the lucky areas to miss out on the worst of the weather. READ MORE: Hospital issues statement as mum, 36, dies minutes after giving birth The region is waking up to a misty start to the day.
