Met Office latest as Greater Manchester hit by yellow thunderstorm warning
Greater Manchester is set for a gloomy day as the threat of thunderstorms looms across the region. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms today (September 2).
The warning, which is already in force and runs until 11.59pm, covers all of Northern England, the Midlands and Wales, plus much of Scotland. In these areas, the Met Office says thunderstorms could cause flooding and disruption.
However, many places which are covered by the warning are expected to miss the storms. According to the latest Met Office forecast, Greater Manchester could be one of the lucky areas to miss out on the worst of the weather.

The region is waking up to a misty start to the day. A period of light rain is expected to following later in the morning, and last until around 2pm.
That rain could be heavier in some areas, including Wigan and Bolton, the Met Office says. By late afternoon, the rain is expected to make way for dry, but overcast conditions.
Temperatures are expected to climb to 19C in some areas, with lows of 15C tonight, with no thunder currently in the local Met Office forecasts. Here's today's full Met Office forecast for Greater Manchester, borough by borough.
