Manchester United have agreed a £6m fee for the transfer of Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, according to reports. Erik ten Hag has been searching for a back-up to Andre Onana with Dean Henderson likely to join Nottingham Forest or Crystal Palace on a permanent basis.
The England international was involved in United’s pre-season squad but failed to make an appearance. It means Tom Heaton is the club’s current No.2, although he missed the first two matches of the season through injury.
Bayindir has five caps for Turkey and kept 14 clean sheets in 40 outings last season. The 25-year-old was an unused substitute in Fenerbahce’s last match against FC Twente and appeared to wave goodbye to fans at full-time.
The Manchester Evening News understands United were keen for him to complete a medical assessment before agreeing a deal after undergoing back hernia surgery in April.
