If competition at right-wing is what Erik ten Hag wanted, Alejandro Garnacho and Amad are providing it. They both played direct roles in Manchester United's 3-0 win over Southampton at St Mary's on Saturday lunchtime, with Garnacho scoring their third goal after Amad had created their second.
Amad was recalled to the starting line up at the expense of Garnacho after being dropped to the bench against Liverpool prior to the international break, and Erik ten Hag's decision to reinstate the Ivorian was fully vindicated. As a result, Amad has now created twice as many chances (10) than any other United player in the Premier League thus far this season.
Garnacho has been United's second most productive architect in their first four matches, creating five chances. But if you were to sit down and reflect on Amad's performances towards the end of last season and in pre-season, it should not come as too great a surprise.
