Man United favourite has responded to Erik ten Hag challenge by doing something £85m man hasn't

If competition at right-wing is what Erik ten Hag wanted, Alejandro Garnacho and Amad are providing it.

They both played direct roles in Manchester United's 3-0 win over Southampton at St Mary's on Saturday lunchtime, with Garnacho scoring their third goal after Amad had created their second.

Amad was recalled to the starting line up at the expense of Garnacho after being dropped to the bench against Liverpool prior to the international break, and Erik ten Hag's decision to reinstate the Ivorian was fully vindicated.

As well as providing the pass that allowed Marcus Rashford to curl home his first Premier League goal since March, the former Sunderland loanee was a constant threat down the right flank, creating a total of six chances.

As a result, Amad has now created twice as many chances (10) than any other United player in the Premier League thus far this season. Garnacho has been United's second most productive architect in their first four matches, creating five chances.

But if you were to sit down and reflect on Amad's performances towards the end of last season and in pre-season, it should not come as too great a surprise.

He was excellent towards the end of last season, producing eye-catching performances in the Old Trafford double-header against Arsenal and Newcastle United, and was razor-sharp throughout pre-season. His ability to consistently attack the penalty area, open doors and create opportunities is making him a very valued asset within Ten Hag's squad.
