Philippe Clement has no excuse if Rangers XI is missing the ONLY man capable of hurting Celtic - Kenny Miller

He's been left kicking his heels for the last two Old Firm games.

But I’m pretty sure that won’t be the case at Hampden on Saturday. For me, Todd Cantwell HAS to start the Scottish Cup Final for Rangers against Celtic. It’s a must for Philippe Clement, especially with how the previous derbies have gone. At Parkhead last weekend, Cantwell didn’t even get off the bench as 10-man Rangers effectively lost the league.

And I can understand why the manager hasn’t picked him in certain games. But there are no excuses this time. In a one-off cup final that Rangers must win, Cantwell has to be given a chance to flourish. Because up until now against Celtic, he hasn’t had that opportunity.

I expect him to start at Hampden. I genuinely feel he’s the only attacker in Clement’s side who is capable of hurting Brendan Rodgers’ men. It’s difficult to assess Cantwell’s time at Ibrox so far. Personally, I think he’s a very good player. He can go past players, see a pass and has an eye for goal.

He has already scored in an Old Firm game, remember. But there’s another side to it. For some reason, it looks like Todd is constantly trying to project an image of himself, when there’s no need. All he has to do is let his football do the talking because he’s good enough.

On Tuesday night against Dundee, he took the game by the scruff of the neck in the second half and was excellent. It was like his performance in the Scottish Cup semi-final win over Hearts when he set up Cyriel Dessers’ two goals.

But when he speaks after an impressive display, I hear him talking about the criticism he’s had and proving people wrong. Well, I’m sorry Todd, but you’re at Rangers. That comes with the territory. When you’re on top in Glasgow, everyone loves you and
