Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte joked that he can 'smell' a third straight Premier League title after seeing Arsenal lose against Brighton.

City took a major step towards the title on Sunday, opening up a four-point gap on their main rivals with a 3-0 win at Everton.

An inspired Ilkay Gundogan netted two wonderful goals at Goodison Park, setting up Erling Haaland for a clinical header in between.

Pep Guardiola's side then watched on as Arsenal fell to the same scoreline at the Emirates, thanks to goals from Julio Enciso, Deniz Undav and Pervis Estupinan.

Named in the starting lineup as part of Manchester City's second string vs Chelsea, Aymeric Laporte took a ten-minute solo stroll around the Etihad pitch around 90 minutes before kick-off at the Etihad, taking videos, watching the big screen, and seemingly chatting to someone on his phone. It's not unusual for players to do things like that - Jack Grealish and Riyad Mahrez always inspect away grounds in similar fashion - but it's not something City players often do at home, and Laporte appeared to be in tears at one point.
