Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood is set to appear in court today charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The England international, 21, from Bowdon, Trafford, is due to make a first court appearance at Manchester and Salford magistrates in the morning.
In a statement on Saturday afternoon, the Crown Prosecution Service said it had authorised Greater Manchester Police to charge him with the three offences.
The CPS said the charges, in full, are: attempting to rape a woman 16 or over, with a date specified as October 22, 2021; engaging in controlling/coercive behaviour, with a period between December 1, 2018 and October 15, 2022 specified; and assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm, with a period between December 12, 2021 and December 31, 2021 detailed.
