The World Test Championship final is only a week away. The Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team is eyeing a good result as it faces the Australian team in the summit clash at The Oval, starting on June 7.

Since 2013, India have come close many times but have failed to win an ICC trophy each time. The WTC final, the second one for India, presents the team a good opportunity to end that drought.

Several top players like Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant are not part of the team due to injury. Despite Bumrah's absence, the Indian pace line-up looks pretty strong.

However, in Pant's absence, the choice is between Ishan Kishan and KS Bharat. Ravi Shastri shared his take on the ideal '12' for the WTC final. "When you look at the WTC, if I remember from the last time India were in the final, it is very important what you learn from that game.

Former India coach Ravi Shastri on Sunday sounded skceptical about the possibility of players getting extended gap after the IPL or practice games ahead of future WTC final matches unless there is a change in thought by all the stakeholders. After India suffered a huge 209-run defeat against Australia at the Oval, head coach Rahul Dravid said arriving in England at least two weeks earlier and playing some side matches would have been ideal for the team ahead of the big game. However, Shastri did not buy into the idea and put the onus on the players to make a choice.
India had a forgetful outing with the bat on Sunday as they were bundled out for 234 in the chase of 444 against Australia in the World Test Championship final. India needed 280 on Day 5 with seven wickets in hand but got bowled out even before the first session was completed. Nathan Lyon and Scott Boland were the pick among the bowlers as they took four and three wickets respectively. Australia became the first team to clinch all four ICC titles while India lost another opportunity to clinch their first ICC trophy since 2013.
After being completely outplayed by Australia in the first three days, Team India fought with tooth and nail to produce a decent fightback on Day 4. Apart from the action on the field, a special moment in the crowd caught the attention of everyone. During India's second innings on Day 4, a fan proposed to his girlfriend at The Oval. The camera was panned towards the couple the moment the man went on his knees and his girlfriend said 'Yes'.
A focussed Virat Kohli stood between Australia and World Test Championship mace as India required another 280 runs at the end of play on Saturday to create history on what promises to be an intriguing final day of the summit clash. Kohli was batting on 44 off 60 balls and had Ajinkya Rahane (20 batting) in company during a stand of 71 for the fourth wicket as India ended the fourth day on 164 for 3 in pursuit of a world record chase of 444. Kohli, who was dismissed for mere 14 runs in his first innings, seemed much more better in the crease during his ongoing knock.
India's Ajinkya Rahane revived his international career with a courageous effort in seaming conditions but it could not prevent Australia from extending their supremacy in the World Test Championship final at The Oval in London on Friday. Playing his first Test in 18 months and with his side's back against the wall, Rahane weathered a hostile spell from Australian pacers on way to a memorable 89 off 129 balls on the third day and took India to 296 all out from 152 for six.
Veteran batter Cheteshwar Pujara had a great opportunity to carry forward his County Championship form into the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia. However, Pujara (14) not only failed to score big runs but also gifted his wicket by leaving Cameron Green's delivery, which rattled his stumps in the first innings on Day 2. Young opening batter Shubman Gill, who had set the stage on fire during the recently concluded Indian Premier League, was also dismissed in a similar fashion by Scott Boland.
