Gareth Ainsworth is keen to become the next Hearts manager. The former Queens Park Rangers boss has applied for the vacant Tynecastle position.

The 51-year-old left the English Championship outfit, where he made his name as a player, last year. Ainsworth has turned down several jobs since and has been waiting for the right opportunity.

Hearts tick a lot of those boxes, especially with the added advantage of European group stage football. It is now with the Tynecastle hierarchy to see how Ainsworth’s statistics stack up against what are their main requirements.

Brighton owner Tony Bloom is in talks over a £10million investment in Hearts. They will turn to one of his analytical companies before they go to the interview process and decide who will replace Steven Naismith, who was sacked earlier this month.
