A huge moorland blaze near Greater Manchester has now been put out by firefighters. Fire crews were called to the wildfire in the Pule Hill area of Marsden Moor shortly after 4.25pm this afternoon (Thursday).

Images from the scene showed huge plumes of smoke visible for miles around. Ten fire engines from stations across West Yorkshire were sent to the scene, with initial reports suggesting strong winds were fanning the flames.

The public was urged to stay away from the area. READ MORE: Join the FREE Manchester Evening News WhatsApp community Police were pictured at the scene, with a number of roads closed off, including the A62 Manchester Road, between Oldham and Marsden.
