Fans of Strictly Come Dancing have hit out at an announcement that has come 'too early' during the series, saying there's 'absolutely no need'.

The complaints flooded in during the first results show of the series on Sunday (September 29), which saw Olympic champion Tom Dean become the first celebrity to be eliminated from this series.

Sunday’s first results show opened with a routine from the judges and professional dancers to When Doves Cry by Prince. There was a show-stopping musical performance of God Gave Me Feet for Dancing from Ezra Collective featuring Yazmin Lacey.

It was then later revealed that the gold-medallist swimmer, 24, would go head-to-head with singer and actress Toyah Willcox, 66, in the dance-off - which eventually saw head judge Shirley Ballas take the deciding vote, and she chose to save Toyah.
